It has just been reported that Donald Trump has fired Steve Bannon as chief strategist.
According to CNN, “Bannon was given the option to resign but was forced out.” And White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, just confirmed that Bannon has been removed: “White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.”
In recent weeks, it’s been reported that Trump and Bannon were at odds over Bannon’s contradictory statement that he made to the American Prospect about North Korea. Additionally, Bannon has come under fire from critics who claim that he harbors anti-Semitic and white supremacist views.
Some sources have said that Bannon, former head of Breitbart.com, was supposed to be fired two weeks ago but was allowed to stay on after some of Trump’s advisers petitioned against it.
Bannon may have also been let go for his continued attempts at gaining recognition for Trump’s success. As many know, Trump like to take credit for his own successes and this could have placed Bannon firmly within Trump’s sights.
Now the question is, what will happen next? Trump has already let go several key staffers and all within a very short period of time. We can probably expect some turmoil over the next few days as a result and if nothing else this is going to make for another couple interesting days of news.
