Russian national Rinat Ahkmetshin has been tied to firms accused of hacking political and legal opponents.
Ahkmetshin met with Donald Trump, Jr. last year to peddle damaging information about Hillary Clinton. That meeting, which Donald Trump, Jr. did not disclose until earlier this summer, landed him in a lot of trouble and put him in the cross-hairs of Special Investigator Robert Muller.
Ahkmetshin is a former Soviet operative and influence-peddler. He has been tied to a previous, but unreported, cyber-attacks carried out in behalf of various Russian oligarchs, most notably Suleiman Kerimov.
Kerimov, a 51-year-old billionaire financier, was accused of orchestrating a hack into the computer network of a business rival and Russian parliamentarian Ashot Egiazaryan, while he was Akhmetshin’s client.
Ahkmetshin also been accused of hacking the International Mineral Resources, a rival Russian mining conglomerate.
As of yet, Akhmetshin has not been accused of any of the hacks surrounding last years presidential election. Currently, the US. intelligence community strongly believes that a group associated with the Russian GRU military intelligence service that goes by the name by the name CrowdStrike: “Fancy Bear.” was responsible for the cyber-attacks during the 2016 campaign.
