Melania Trump reportedly has been unable to leave her hotel all day Friday because of chaotic protests over the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, local and international outlets report.
There’s no evidence to suggest that Melania Trump is in danger, but the clashes have injured at least 100 officers and led to the dozens of arrests.
Melania was due to be involved in an event for the spouses of leaders taking part in the G20 summit, organized by Angela Merkel’s husband. But a spokesperson for the U.S. delegation told German media that they had been unable to get clearance for Melania to leave the hotel where she is staying.
The German Chancellor’s husband, Joachim Sauer, was due to take Melania on a tour of the German Climate Computing Centre along with the Ivanka Trump, and other spouses of G20 leaders on Friday.
Melania tweeted Friday, “Thinking of those hurt in #Hamburg protests. Hope everyone stay safe! #G20.” Hamburg reportedly brought in reinforcements for the local police force to increase security in preparation for the two-day summit.

It wasn’t just Melania either. Both Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Indonesian leader Joko Widodo found themselves barricaded inside their hotel as well over the same security concerns. Turnbull called the situation a “security lockdown.”
