According to TheBlast.com, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer says he deserves a part of Melissa McCarthy’s Emmy for her portrayal of him on “Saturday Night Live,” and he’s not ruling out hosting the long-running NBC variety show.
“I think we should share,” Spicer said when asked whether he’s owed part of McCarthy’s statue in an interview published Tuesday.
McCarthy was honored in the best guest actress in a comedy series category at the Emmy’s creative arts awards on Sunday. McCarthy made a splash on SNL earlier this year with her gender-bending incredible impersonation of Spicer.
McCarthy played Spicer as a revved-up, aggressive White House spokesman who fired a water gun at journalists, used props, and piloted a moving briefing room podium.
Asked by the entertainment news site whether he would consider taking to the “SNL” stage as host, Spicer replied, “If they ask, we’ll have a conversation.”
Back in February, Spicer had called “SNL” a “funny” show but said that McCarthy “could dial back” her exaggerated impersonation of him.
At the time, he was critical of Alec Baldwin’s take on his then-boss, Donald Trump. “‘SNL’ used to be really funny,” Spicer said, “There’s a streak of meanness now that they’ve crossed over to mean.”
Spicer, who resigned from his White House role in July, will make his own late-night debut on Wednesday night when he will be a guest on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
