Some Shady Dirt on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Just Got Dug Up, And It’s Extra Filthy!

Donald Trump is the least transparent president in modern U.S. history. He’s broken numerous presidential customs all so he can keep his dealings private.

During the opening months of his presidency, Trump frequented his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. He even nicknamed his resort the “Winter White House.” Donald made waves when he openly reviewed classified documents on the outdoor terrace of Mar-a-Lago while surrounded by club members.

Donald’s careless actions led the liberal nonprofit group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University and the National Security Archive to file a lawsuit demanding Trump’s Mar-a-Lago visitor logs. The only names they were given in return were individuals who joined Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his visit to Mar-a-Lago.

Acting assistant attorney general Chad A. Readler made the following excuse:

“The remaining records that the Secret Service has processed in response to the Mar-a-Lago request contain, reflect, or otherwise relate to the president’s schedules. The government believes that presidential schedule information is not subject to FOIA.”

CREW’s executive director Nah Bookbinder disagreed:

“After waiting months for a response to our request for comprehensive visitor logs from the president’s multiple visits to Mar-a-Lago and having the government ask for a last minute extension, today we received 22 names from the Japanese prime minister’s visit to Mar-a-Lago and nothing else. The government does not believe that they need to release any further Mar-a-Lago visitor records. We vehemently disagree. The government seriously misrepresented their intentions to both us and the court. This was spitting in the eye of transparency. We will be fighting this in court.”
