Donald Trump is making money hand over fist at Trump National Doral golf club in Miami. According to a new filing with the IRS, GOP governors have spent over $400,000 this year at Trump’s property.
The governors listed their trip to his club as an “event.” In April, the grand total spent by governors was $117,966, and in June, governors spent a whopping $289,810!
The watchdog organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) uncovered the payments. The governors spent more than any other political entity at a Trump business this year.
The RGA claims to have booked its Corporate Policy Summit at the course before Trump entered politics, which seems a little too convenient.
An RGA spokesperson said:
“The May 2017 event at Trump Doral in Miami was booked in February 2015 – months before Trump announced he was running. We usually book many of our events years in advance. For CREW to infer anything on this, is lazy on their part and further proof that they are nothing but a Democrat front group.”
The RGA’s payments to Trump National Doral Miami are also significantly larger than payments the organization made for similar events in 2016, suggesting the group may be willing to pay more to patronize the president’s businesses. According to IRS records compiled by Political Moneyline, the most the RGA paid an event venue that year was $285,616 at the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay, which included the event deposit, venue rental, lodging, parking, and travel expenses.
