Conservative firebrand Tomi Lahren admitted that she still benefits from one of the top features of Obamacare during a debate in which she blasted the healthcare plan, at the political convention “Politicon” in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Lahren sat for a conversation with comedian Chelsea Handler and said that she is on on her parents’ healthcare insurance. The ability to stay on your parents’ plan until 26 is a major aspect of the healthcare legislation.
Lahren said: “I don’t think government does well at health care, I think it’s proven by the V.A. that the government doesn’t do well at health care. So we need to find alternatives. What’s right now is not working. What we had before Obamacare was not working. I think you increase competition, I think that’s the way to do it. … I think that the free marketplace is better.”
Then she added, “Luckily, I am 24, so I am still on my parents’ plan,” Lahren said during the debate, drawing boos and laughter from the crowd.
Handler then defended Lahren for the comment, saying, “Stop, she is being honest.”
Lahren still slammed Obamacare as being in a “death spiral.” Extending insurance to older dependents is not typically targeted by conservatives who criticize ObamaCare for other factors such as the individual mandate to buy insurance.
Lahren joined the pro-Trump advocacy group Great America Alliance in May after she was forced out of Glenn Beck’s libertarian media outlet The Blaze after comments she made in favor of abortion access.
