The plot continues to thicken surrounding the Donald Trump Jr. Russian attorney scandal. The GOP is scrambling to come up with reasons why Donald Trump Jr. should be vindicated, including blaming President Obama for the lawyer’s expired visa.
The Washington Post’s Phillip Bump did some digging to see what was going on with the Trump campaign around the time Donald Jr. was offered damaging information on Hillary Clinton by a Russian publicist.
Bump created a timeline that perfectly puts the pieces together.
On June 3, 2016, as confirmed by his Twitter posts, Donald Jr. received an offer of damaging information on Hillary Clinton via email. Donald Trump denies ever knowing about the emails.
Fast forward to June 7, 2016, when Donald Trump delivered a spirited rally speech vowing to reveal new scandals in a “major speech.”
On June 9, 2016, Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskay.
As of now, it’s not exactly clear just how much Trump knew about his son’s meeting with the Russian attorney, but the following speech segment directly correlates to his son’s emails. It’ll be interesting to see if this scandal ultimately gets swept under the rug like the rest of the Trump scandals thus far through Trump’s presidency.
