President Trump stunned the world today when he sent his unqualified and unelected daughter to fill in for him at the G-20 summit. Apparently uninterested in the “Partnership with Africa, Migration and Health” discussion, Trump inexplicably wandered off and was replaced by shoe design plagiarist and sweatshop profiteer Ivanka, who said barely two weeks ago that she preferred to “stay out” of politics.
UN Ambassador Nikki Haley defended Ivanka on Face The Nation today with a simply staggering line of defense:
“She’s got her certain issues that she focuses on and when those things come up then that’s where she is. She sees herself as part of a public servant family and she doesn’t want to waste this time by not putting forward some effort to try and help the world.”
Ivanka’s concern for the “issues” she claims to care about so dearly, like women’s empowerment, appears to extend only as far as she can use her “wokeness” to build her personal brand. Her “activism” has so far consisted of flowery, feel-good platitudes as devoid of substance as they are of sincerity.
If she truly cared about women’s rights in the world, she would have publicly stepped up to defend the labor activists who were imprisoned by the Chinese government for investigating the horrifying working conditions in the factories that make Ivanka Trump brand products, or confronted her father about his efforts to take healthcare coverage away from millions of American families, or done anything at all more substantial than send out some simpering tweets.
Which doesn’t even begin to address the breathtaking dishonesty of trying to paint the Trumps as a “family of public servants.” None of the Trumps have ever held office nor done anything to “serve the public.” The family charitable foundations are the closest thing to public service they ever touched, but even those hollow gesture of philanthropy have been exposed as nothing but fronts for laundering money through.
To say the Trumps serve the public is a slight to every person who has ever actually done something to improve the lives of others, because the Trump family is so cartoonishly self-serving it is still hard to comprehend that they are actually the First Family of the United States and not a caricature of bourgeois excess from a communist propaganda pamphlet.
