Despite the fact that the American Health Care Act is unpopular with virtually every American, and most of the Senate have issues with it, Democrats and Republicans, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is planning to use an old Senate rule that will fast track “Trumpcare” to a vote.

Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) made a call for action on Twitter Thursday morning, warning Americans of McConnell’s plans:

When a bill goes to Senate, it usually has to go through a markup process, where committees debate the bill and make amendments before it goes for a vote. Rule 14 bypasses that entire process and puts the bill on the Senate calendar for a vote.

Rule 14 is usually used in two cases. Either a crisis so severe and time sensitive that there is no time for a review process, or on the opposite side of the spectrum, a bill with such little importance that there is no reason to discuss it.

The American Health Care Act is not one of those bills. 23 million Americans will lose their insurance if Trumpcare is passed. The bill needs to be reviewed, and more importantly, read. Several members of Congress admitted to not even reading the bill. It’s the Senate’s responsibility to do what Congress did not.
