One could assume that with an entire administration of ‘professionals,’ the Trump team could manufacture a better excuse than the following one for Jared Kushner’s presence at Don Jr.’s meeting with a Russia lawyer. Don Jr. accepted an offer of dirt on Hillary Clinton sent to him by a Russian publicist via email.
According to the White House, Jared Kushner went to the meeting under the assumption that the group would discuss a Russian adoption program. Kushner claimed that he had failed to read the entire email. He missed the part about receiving damaging information on Hillary, despite the subject line: “Re: Russia – Clinton – private and confidential.”
In the emails, the contact, a former tabloid reporter called Rob Goldstone, said the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was a “Russian government attorney” who could provide “very high level and sensitive information” as “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr Trump.”
But a source close to the situation told BuzzFeed that Mr Kushner did not read to the bottom of the email, missing out key words like “Russian government” and therefore did not realise what the meeting was about.
The White House continues to push the Russian adoption narrative, yet the email chain Don Jr. released doesn’t mention adoption.
